Spanish

Curriculum Intention:

At Woodridge Primary School, our aim is to broaden pupils' horizons and encourage them to step beyond familiar cultural boundaries and develop new ways of seeing the world. Our teaching should enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing.

We aim to prepare children for the KS3  language curriculum to enable them to transfer confidently and successfully.

Curriculum Implementation:

Spanish at Woodridge is taught across Key Stage 2 by a Spanish TA.  The school uses an adapted version of the "Language Angels" scheme of work to support the teaching and learning of Spanish, alongside resources from Twinkl and other websites. This provides clear progression for the development of speaking and listening and vocabulary acquisition.

Years 3 and 4 receive 35 minutes of Spanish teaching per week, whilst Years 5 and 6 have a 45 minute session.

We use a variety of techniques to actively engage the children and embed the learning. These include games, songs, rhymes and role play, as well as carefully selected reading and writing materials. These are designed to develop vocabulary through repetition, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
